Leading Hand | Civil Construction

Randstad is partnering with a specialist Victorian contractor that is entering a phase of growth. While they have long been established as a preferred consultant for Tier 2 contractors in the delivery of high-end civil and landscape packages, they are now strategically growing their self-performing civil construction arm.

For an ambitious Leading Hand, this represents a unique opportunity to join a business offering a long-term career path where you can influence the company’s operational DNA as they scale.

The Position

As the company expands its civil construction capabilities, you will be responsible for transitioning engineering designs into high-quality infrastructure, ensuring that every project—from commercial landscapes to civil package's executed with the precision the brand is known for.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise and mentor site labour crews and plant operators to maintain productivity and project standards.
  • Coordinate daily subcontractor activities and material logistics to ensure the construction program remains on schedule.

  • Interpret technical civil drawings and specifications, focusing on bulk earthworks, detailed excavation, and structural concrete works.

  • Implement OHS and environmental management systems in compliance with Tier 2 and government client requirements.

  • Serve as the primary site contact for client representatives, providing professional communication and resolving technical issues.

  • Monitor plant and equipment to ensure efficient resource allocation across the site.

  • Maintain accurate site documentation, including daily diaries, quality assurance checklists, and safety toolbox records.

Required Experience & Qualifications

We are looking for a forward-thinking supervisor who is motivated by growth and the opportunity to build something lasting. You should be as comfortable leading a crew as you are discussing program milestones with a Project Manager.

  • Proven experience in a leading hand capacity within the Victorian civil construction industry, specifically on commercial landscaping or civil construction projects.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the compliance and reporting frameworks required when working with Tier 2 contractors.

  • Technical proficiency in reading civil plans and performing site set-outs with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage a diverse workforce and maintain professional stakeholder relationships.

  • A valid Victorian Driver’s License and General Construction Induction (White Card).

  • A trade background or formal qualifications in Civil Construction or a relevant field.

What is on offer for you

  • Career Growth: Be part of an exciting phase as the business builds out its civil arm, offering clear pathways into senior leadership.

  • Diverse Projects: Work on a variety of sectors including Level Crossing Removals, major road projects, and high-spec commercial developments.

  • Professional Culture: Join a team that values innovation and efficiency without losing the personable, relationship-driven approach of a specialist contractor.

  • Stability & Reward: A competitive market salary, including a vehicle and the tools required to succeed.
